My Stolen Phone Ordeal at HnM Shoe Section, Westfield , Stratford.

Hi!

So on Thursday 17th April 2014, I decided to go to HnM at Westfield, Stratford to check out these new wedges that I saw on their website. I knew they wouldn’t fit me and I knew even if they did I won’t buy them but no I still had to go n check them because I JUST had to!

So I headed on to the shop and went straight to the shoe section, didn’t find them but found something similar. Picked up my size, sat down and tried them on. No, they didn’t look nice. Got up to put the shoes back, but first I just wanted to check the time. I reached my pocket to take my phone out but hey! It wasn’t there! I searched every where, my pockets, my baby’s changing bag, the floor. In the meantime I saw this another girl looking for something. Her friend was helping her out. I asked, are you guys looking for something. They said yes, we’re looking for a phone. I was amazed and said, me too! And there! We knew our phones had been stolen. We walked to the entrance to find the security guard but he wasn’t there so we approached the tills and a lady called the security guard over for us. We thought he will instantly lock the doors and check the people out or at least check the CCTV cameras. But no, he instead sent us to the concierge where we were told the police will be called. Concierge sent us some where else and so after being sent here n there the police finally came. There were two guys, one young and one old. The young police man asked where my phone was I said my pocket, he yanked my coat and said your pockets are so easily accessible, why did you put it there? The guy was right but I thought to myself, that’s not the point. I must add that when we got to the concierge there was another girl standing there with a complain about her stolen phone but hers was stolen in New Look.

Anyway, the police said even if they check the CCTV cameras they still can’t catch the person because they don’t know who they are. Really? Of course you didnt! I mean when we faced London riots in 2011 the same police was checking CCTV cameras and arresting people from their homes! So they were telling me they couldn’t do anything, I mean what’s the point of taking biometrics and blah blah if you can’t even catch this thief who stole 3 phones within minutes of each other? I was anticipating they will take images out f the CCTV cameras and paste them on the Westfield walls with WANTED written all over so at least others would be aware but no … you only see that in hollywood movies!

The police gave us a mobile number and told us to call and give the IMEI number. I went home, got my sim blocked and phone too! I called the police and gave them the IMEI number.

Two or three days after I got an email from London Met saying they were sorry and couldn’t do anything bout it.

Also, a few months ago my friends phone was stolen from the same mall. Theft is so common in Westfield , Stratford. The management should do something about it before people completely stop going there, like me. I know we must take care of our belongings but that doesn’t mean the management should just sit and do nothing.

Right, so should I think this is a new business idea? Start stealing to make money cuz you will just get away with it!

Westfield, Stratford one of the most dangerous areas for theft, mugging, pickpocketing. This explains it!
