Why I Love Utility Bags For Travel

All mums know that our job is never finished. It seems just as you finish one thing, five more tasks appear… It’s a never-ending struggle! But there are certain hacks to making a busy life just a little bit more manageable, such as to-do lists, calendar alerts and functional fashion. Yep, you heard right—fashion can be a great way to get your life organised!

One item I am currently coveting is stylishly useful utility bag. Whether it’s a rucksack or a handy tote, these bags are the perfect companions for a busy day full of errands and endless to-dos. It’s an added plus that rucksacks have recently become very popular and trendy, thus providing tons of options for all personalities and style identities. I’ve been scouring the web for my favourite utility bags that fuse fashion and function, and I wanted to share my finds. Check out my covets and why I love utility bags …

Manageable Mini
One reason I love the miniature rucksack is because of its ability to double as both a purse and a carryall. Sometimes you need just a little extra space in your bag to bring along a few extra (but important!) items. A mini is small enough that you’ll forget it’s there, but it’s large enough to fit a handy notebook. Oh, and bonus style points because Lauren Conrad loves these little bags.

Leather Lover

Effortlessly cool, a chic leather sack is less ‘mummy’ and way more ‘rock star.’ For those days that quickly turn into nights, try out a leather bag to transition from the dry cleaners to happy hour when the sun goes down. Leather has become a new neutral so you can pair it with just about any outfit, and it’s a great way to show off your sense of style. I love the above Rebecca Minkoff style from Lyst.

Tote-ally Convenient
When you’ve got to bring along a laptop to do some work or answer emails, a tote bag will be your best friend. Sure, there are many tote bags already out there, but you can easily upgrade your every day ensemble with a sophisticated tote that does more than just serve its functional purpose. Refinery29 pulled together a few totes for inspiration.

Hands-free Handbag
Just when you thought utility bags were confined solely to the rucksack and tote bag categories, the belt bag arrived. A modern, edgy mix of the cross-body satchel and the touristy fanny pack, a belt bag brings attention to the stylish strap, leaving leeway for the rest of your appearance. Not to be confused with a fanny pack, a belt bag is the cool way to stay calm when you could really use an extra hand, because it frees up both!
