Sandy Rayner is an ex-fashion designer with over 18 years experience designing for practically everyone on the high street. She found Pilates through her own back condition and realised it was a life saver and helped keep her mobile and pain free.

What is Pilates?

Its a form of exercise using the principles founded by Joseph Pilates, who created it so that people could exercise in confined spaces.

What are the benefits of Pilates?

It has many benefits, from strengthening the core muscles, through to improving balance and co ordination. It is also one of the few exercises that can be safely performed with other medical conditions such as asthma and hearty disease. (With the right qualified instructor! )

What made you get into Pilates?

I was diagnosed with scoliosis when I was 24 which resulted in months of physio and working with a personal trainer. One of which worked and were very expensive. Pilates was suggested to me as a way of helping correct my spine and from then I have been addicted. It manages my pain levels, I am not medication free and I know exactly which exercise to do when I have a bad back day

What kind of people is Pilates for?

Its for anyone and everyone. I teach adults, males, females and children

How is Pilates different from yoga or other forms of exercises?

The main difference is that pilates focuses on the core deeper muscles which support the spine and strengthens them
